Methodist (Sydney, NSW : 1892 - 1954), Saturday 21 June 1941, page 2

At the moment is not a map of the journey we have to travel, but strength to keep to the road. We cannot ask from God all the resources we need because we think we deserve them, but only because from the bottom of our hearts we believe that we are striving for ends which are right, and with which are bound up not only our own happiness but the happiness and welfare of men everywhere.

We need the right spirit and the full resources to pursue that task to the end, and that puts us of to-day side by side with those who have borne the same kind of burden in the heroic days of the past. I am confident our spirit will not fail us in any testing days which may yet come. But once again we must not look to God to lighten our load by some kind of magic: what we can ask Him is that He will give us the patience, the courage, and the sacrifice which are demanded from us.

If we consecrate all that we have and are to this epoch-making task, we can go forward with quiet confidence in God, remembering that one of the greatest qualities of faith is that those who hold it are 'out of weakness made strong.' It is a faith of that kind to which every one of us is called: we can do no greater thing for our nation than to make it the vital centre of our own lives, our light in days of darkness, our strength in days of weakness, and our unyielding purpose and confidence for all the days that are yet to come.
