1881
Birth and Education

Sidney Malcolm Berry was born on the 25 July 1881 to the Rev. Charles and Mary Agnes Berry nee Martin. Charles was a well known Congregational Minister who had, at one time, been offered the pulpit of the Plymouth Church, New York when the church was seeking a replacement for Rev. Henry Beecher - sister of Harriet Beecher-Stowe.  

1897
Death of Father, Rev. Charles Berry

On January 31st, 1897, Rev. Berry died while conducting the funeral services of a fellow non-conformist minister in the Wesleyan Chapel at Bilston, Staffordshire.  He had been ill for several months and had only just resumed his duties. 

1905
Ordination

Berry was ordained at the Oxted Congregational Church in Surrey in 1906, and in 1909 was called to Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester, and then in 1912 to Carr’s Lane Chapel, in the heart of Birmingham, a pastorate made famous by R. W. Dale. 

1907
Marriage

Sidney Berry married Helen Alice Mary Logan  on the 14th December, 1907 at the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, King St, West Hammersmith, Middlesex.
