The Rev. Sidney M. Berry, pastor of Carr's-lane, Birmingham (successor of Dr Jowett and Dr Dale), in a pastoral letter accompanying, the annual report of the church work, refers to the war and states that Carrs-lane and Dlgbeth have given 500 men to the service of the country.
I do not believe any church can beat that record, and we are all grateful that in a demand which has been unexampled in the history of the nation our churches have not been behind.
Then, again, the war has introduced those of us who are compelled to stay at home to a whole round of fresh duties. Many of these tasks have fallen on the ladies of the church.'
