Congregational Leader To Visit Hobart

Mercury (Hobart, Tas. : 1860 - 1954), Friday 31 March 1950, page 6

THE Moderator and Secretary of the International Congregational Council (Dr. Sidney Berry) will arrive in Hobart next Monday.

DR. BERRY has just completed 25 years as secretary of the Congregational Union of England and Wales. He is also a past chairman of the union.

The International Congregational Council is a worldwide organisation. It aims at promoting exchange visits between ministers, theological teachers and students, representatives of laymen's, women's and youth work.

More than 20 countries sent representatives to the 1949 conference of the council, held in Boston (U.S.).

Dr. Berry will visit all the Australian States, and will then go to New Zealand and India.

His mission is to get first-hand information of the conditions, needs, and progress in these countries.

The Lord Mayor (Mr. Harris) will give a civic welcome to Dr. Berry on Tuesday.

Dr. Berry will speak at a public meeting in the Memorial Church on Wednesday: he will address Rotarians on Thursday, and will visit the Huon on Good Friday. On Easter Day he will be present at an after-church rally in the Hobart Town Hall at 8.30 p.m.
